The shop is an Associate Member of The British Association For Fair Trade
Shops (BAFTS). This means that in addition to buying from suppliers who ensure that the
producers get a fair wage, are not exploited and who benefit tangibly from the sale of
their crafts. The Crafty Kitchen also adheres to ethical and environmental standards with
regard to its business methods.
Although the premises are small, the shop is stocked with an amazing selection of
crafts,,jewellery, pottery, clothes and books, from many different countries. New this year
are superb replica wooden ducks and sea birds and silver jewellery, from Indonesia, an
expanded range of unusual musical instruments from Africa and South America, Scottish
prints, many of which depict the west coast of Scotland and a wonderful selection of
unusual cards!
Collaig Pottery, in Ardfern, has developed some exciting new designs over
the winter, several of which are now on the pottery shelves, alongside the popular blue
pottery from sheltered workshops at Camphill. Scottish jewellery is always in demand, so
now Celtic pewter pendants and ear-rings will be displayed alongside those in bronze,
silver and brass.
